The Rivers State Carnival...Carniriv2013 is just around the corner (15th - 21st December 2013)
Preparations are in top gear for Africa's biggest carnival.
Hosting this event has immense benefits in showing off the rich cultural heritage of Rivers people to the world.
The Niger Delta (of which Rivers State capital -Port Harcourt is the commercial nerve center) is usually portrayed as
a place of poverty, deprivation, oil theft, corruption, loss of habitat as a result of Oil spills and human rights abuses, but come December 15th, the world’s eyes will be fixed on Rivers State and Nigeria for something that will hopefully leave a good impression on those who will be in Port Harcourt and millions who are following events online and on TV from around the world.

Carniriv2013 will hopefully help change perceptions from the usual negative perception to a much more positive version.

The economic impacts are already being felt all over the state.Tens of Thousands have been meaningfully employed, new facilities being built, roads are repaired and intensive development of
infrastructures going on everywhere.
These will act as a huge boost to both regional and national economic development.

Tourism revenue over the month of the Carnival improves considerably every year and
Small/Medium scale business owners look forward to this event.
Local companies can get their products sold to diverse visitors and adverts are noticed on a global stage.
