RSG To Name Monument After Ex-Speaker

Rivers State Government will immortalise late former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry by naming a monument in his honour.
The State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi who gave the hint last Wednesday during a Service of Songs for late Harry at the Civic Centre in Port Harcourt said before the decision would be announced, he and the current Speaker of the State House of Assembly would meet to agree on what monument to name after the late Speaker who died last month after a heart attack.
Governor Amaechi said, “we would put our heads together, myself and the Speaker and we would immortalise Tonye’s name. We would try and look at what is important. Amaechi described the late former Speaker who was also a Deputy Speaker in the House of Assembly from 1999-2007, as an administrator and attributed his success as Speaker largely to the contributions of his deputy.
“It means that at any point in time, you can rely on his sagacity; you can rely on his ability to be able to manage situations. You can rely on the fact that he was also a good administrator. I cannot claim to have been a successful Speaker without Tonye’s contributions”, Amaechi recalled.
In his tribute, Senator Magnus Abe described Harry’s sudden death as a shock to him, “this is the most difficult moment of my life. Tonye was a friend and a brother … the reality and finality of what has happened has dawned on everybody”.
Abe and Harry were colleagues at the Assembly between 1999-2003. “We were in the seventh Assembly, we were not only friends and colleagues but a family. He was not just a friend, but a brother”.
Abe said he was pained over Harry’s sudden demise, as he regretted not attending the birthday of the late former Speaker which according to him was the last social landmark in the life of Harry.
Leader of the State House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd recalled how late Harry stood by him during his travails in the crisis that rocked the House, stating that the late former Speaker visited him in detention even in the court and pressed for his release.
Delivering a sermon at the event, South-South Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Felix Ekiye challenged public office holders to learn from the life of late Harry.
Rev. Ekiye said public office should be used for the betterment of society such that when one leaves or dies, the people would have good memory of one.

PortHarcourt Born and Bred Music producer and Singer murdered in Cyprus

His name is Stanley Eteimo. Port Harcourt Born and Bred. He schooled in Ompadec Science Center (now NDSS, College of Art and Science,Rumuola). He lived at Road 7 federal housing estate, Woji Estate before traveling to Cyprus to further his education.

Stanley Eteimo's body was found floating in a private beach in Cyprus on Thursday 8th August. The 28 year budding singer and student (pictured above) had gone to a party at a popular 5-star hotel called Kratos Hotel the previous day Wednesday August 7th with some friends.

According to the friends of the late Bayelsa state indigene, while at the party, he met a white girl he knew from school and started chatting with her. The white girl's boyfriend, who was also at the party, got jealous and confronted Stanley, which led to serious argument between the two men. The white dude allegedly threatened to kill Stanley for disrespecting him and was overhead saying nothing will happen because Stanley was in his country.

At 2am, some of the friends Stanley came with to the party were leaving and asked him to come along but he insisted he was still having fun and wanted to stay back. By 4am, the party had ended and the Nigerian boys who left at the close of the party didn't see him and assumed he had gone home.

By 3pm on Thursday 8th of August, management of Kratos Hotel called the police informing them of seeing a body floating by the shore of their private beach. It was Stanley.
Cyprus police have declared it a suicide case without autopsy. They are claiming he committed suicide by drowning himself. His brother who went to identify Stanley's body said he saw blood stain from his ear, mouth and nose.
The brother insists it's not suicide because Stanley had no reason to commit suicide and wants the guy who threatened him at the party that night investigated. Also, the hotel refused to provide CCTV tapes of that particular day. During the day, the 5star hotel has workers, life guards and security guards, who have all denied either seeing Stanley come in or go out of the premises.

His friends are worried the case will be swept under the rug because it's a black and white thing and wanted to get the story out.
Friends of Stanley Eteimo say he was a friend to everybody, loved life, had a great spirit, transparent soul and a lovely personality.
Nigeria has a GDP of about 500 billion dollars while Cyprus has a GDP of about 20 billion dollars, yet Nigerians still travel out in droves to school in Cyprus, Singapore, Malaysia, Ghana and even Cotonou and other less financially buoyant nations to school and live. There is definitely a problem with Nigeria's government and her policies. There is definitely a problem. May his Soul rest in Peace
